Westside Connection is a non-profit organization that offers the student athletes of the westside neighborhoods, the opportunity to participate in low cost sports program and free or low cost skills camps. Currently we are offering:
- Girls volleyball
- Football
- Boys Basketball
- Girls Basketball
- Softball
- Wrestling
Any child who is enrolled in a West High feeder school grade 3-8 is eligible to participate. Westside Connection works closely with the head or assistant varsity coaches at West High to implement their terminology, team rules, style of play, practice drills, etc. We feel this gives our participants an advantage as they move up to compete for a varsity spot at West High. We also do our best to follow the team rules of each respected sport as well as the rules of West High.
Westside Connection strives to be an inclusive organization, and to offer programing as diverse as the communities we serve. Today, Westside Connection is able to give interested youth a low cost opportunity to experience the commitment, the challenge, and the fun of a competitive experience in softball, basketball, volleyball, and football. But WC exists to fulfill a mission for tomorrow. That mission is to someday be able to offer, at little or no cost, something of interest to every youth in the diverse community that we serve: Sioux City’s Westside.
Although coaches and volunteers contribute significantly through their own resources, fund raising, and countless hours on the courts and fields, additional funds are needed to realize the dream. Westside Connection hosts several fundraisers in order to raise money to continue to grow as well as support our activities we already have established. We hold car washes, participate in tip nights at local restaurants, host pancake breakfasts, and even cook for a spaghetti dinner/silent auction. We are also fortunate to be able to run the concession stands during league and tournament games. Everyone is welcome to be a member of Westside Connection, membership is free, and everyone can be a volunteer.
